First Eskimo Dance of the year

Last week, or maybe the one before, they had an eskimo dance to welcome old teachers back to the village and to welcome the new teachers to Alakanuk. It was a great evening of dancing, laughing, and visiting with many community members. :)

Some sweet girls... Two of them I coached, one was in my class my first year. :)

It was a hoot watching River dance. So cute!

Hopefully we'll have another dance soon... More pictures to come! :)

  1. I just found your blog and my hubby and I are thoroughly enjoying it. We are both in school finishing up our teaching degrees and hopefully, you can answer some questions for us. I am working on my master's degree in SPED K-12 and he is an art education major. We wanted to know if there is a demand for SPED teachers in Alaska? What about art teachers? Is there a need for certified teachers to work as substitute teachers in Alaskan bush schools if their spouse is hired as a teacher? Are families allowed to come with the new hires? Is there space available at the school for teacher's children? I am sorry to ask so many questions but we are very interested in teaching in Alaska. Thanks so much!

    1. Hello there. I don't know how much information I really have for you because my district is the only district in Alaska that I am familiar with... However, I can refer you to Alaska teacher placement. I think you should be able to do some research there... A lot of things vary by district, and Bush districts (accessible only by plane/boat--no roads connecting villages) are different than the larger city districts like Anchorage. I would say do some research. I'm sorry I am not much help! Best of luck and enjoy!
